Building Landmarks Efficiently Without Overextending

Back to Monopoly GO hub

Landmarks are a major source of progress in Monopoly GO, but building too quickly without protection can lead to repeated repairs. This guide explains how to pace upgrades, manage cash flow, and time your building to reduce setbacks.

Understand Landmark Levels

Each board has multiple landmarks with several upgrade levels. Completing all landmarks advances you to the next board and provides rewards. Because landmark upgrades require cash, it is helpful to spread upgrades in a way that keeps you protected with shields while still moving forward.

Upgrading a landmark draws attention to your board because it increases the value of potential attacks. If you upgrade multiple landmarks without shields, you may lose progress before you can finish the board.

Build When You Can Cover With Shields

Shields protect landmarks from attacks. A common, efficient approach is to build or upgrade when you have enough rolls to refill shields afterward. This reduces the chance that a newly upgraded landmark will be damaged before you can protect it.

If you are low on rolls, consider delaying large upgrades until you can secure shields again. This may slow progress slightly but can save more resources in the long run by avoiding repeated repairs.

Prioritize Completing a Board Over Partial Upgrades

Completing a board grants a new board and rewards. Spreading upgrades across multiple landmarks is required, but aim for a consistent pace that lets you finish the board rather than leaving several landmarks half-finished. A near-complete board is vulnerable because even one attack can undo progress.

If you are close to completing the last landmark, it can be worth focusing cash there to finish the board and collect the completion reward, rather than starting upgrades on a new board without enough resources to protect them.

Manage Cash Flow During Events

Some events reward landmark upgrades or board completions. These are good opportunities to build because the upgrades contribute to event points. If you have been saving cash, use these events to gain both progress and event rewards.

Outside of events, you can still build steadily, but consider whether waiting for an upgrade-focused event will provide extra value for the same investment.

If you are unsure whether to build, set a cash threshold. For example, you can keep enough cash to repair at least one landmark after an attack, then spend any amount above that threshold on upgrades. This reduces the risk of being unable to recover from a surprise hit.

Avoid Upgrading When You Are About to Log Off

If you are about to stop playing for an extended period, upgrading landmarks right before leaving can be risky because you may not be able to replenish shields. In these cases, it is safer to hold cash and upgrade when you return. This reduces the chance of coming back to damaged landmarks.

A simple habit is to check your shield count and remaining rolls before making major upgrades. If you can protect the upgrades, proceed. If not, pause and revisit later.

Summary: Build With Protection in Mind

Efficient landmark building comes from timing. Upgrade when you can maintain shields, focus on finishing boards, and align upgrades with events when possible. This reduces repair costs and helps you progress consistently.
